Interview with Yosuke Chikamoto, Ph D
Yosuke Chikamoto, Ph.D is a behavioral scientist and educator specializing in clinical communication, improving the patient experience, and clinician well-being. Dr. Chikamoto has more than 30 years of experience working across academic medicine, healthcare systems, and professional education. His work focuses on how clinicians communicate with patients and families in the realities of modern healthcare—under conditions of time pressure, emotional intensity, uncertainty, and complexity. At the Mount Sinai Health System in New York and Kaiser Permanente in Northern California, Dr. Chikamoto partnered with physicians, nurses, and healthcare leaders to design and lead system-wide initiatives in physician communication, patient experience, and professional development. His work has emphasized bedside realities rather than scripts—using observation, coaching, and reflective practice to strengthen communication in everyday clinical encounters.
